Re Treat By Una burke

Úna Burke's wearable art pieces intrigue me for the same reasons I am intrigued by Aoi Kotsuhiroi, the tied up and strange way they look towards the fashion industry.

London based Una Burke created conceptual pieces, a series of eight human gestures associated with the cause, the physical and psychological effect and the healing stages of human trauma. The sculpted leather, vegetable treated, remind you of medical braces. With this she is trying (and succeeded) to create Avant Garde Carcass-like pieces that signify the potential for healing within the body.

Úna also notes that the beautiful thing about these objects are that you can break them down into separate pieces (arm pieces, leg pieces, head or neck pieces and shoulder pieces). But I think it takes away the essence of the designs overall. She shouldn't have given us the option to separate the pieces, the whole concept behind these leather beauties will literally fall apart.

But then I browsed and browsed and saw something I really liked! The launch of Úna Burke’s first commercial collection of hand-crafted structural accessories for Spring/Summer 2011. A great way to broaden her horizon and reach a bigger art-piece-lovin' audience without changing her concept. She just made it wearable (I would have worn the Re Treat pieces to though). Also available at Not Just A Label.

Aoi Kotsuhiroi

Aoi Kotsuhiroi is one mysterious designer, but that makes it more interesting for me to wright about her. Her 'story' has been blogged and written about a million (I'm exaggerating, but it fits the story) times, and that she can thank to her latest collection.

Exotic Regrets is a collection of unique handmade art pieces, and all one of a kind. Inspired by Kinbaku art. In Japan, Kinbaku is a traditional art form combining elements from the arts of packaging and of flower decoration (Ikebana). These elements are clearly present is this small collection, the leather straps and ropes all knotted up and the rough materials, all in black.

The objects define different elements of being a women, all objects emphasize the muscles and curves, giving them the tension by the bondage ropes. Aoi captured and revealed the rawness, and the beauty, of Kinbaku in Exotic Regrets. I would love to see these designs in person, if you do too, you can find her pieces in the London Avant Garde fashion shop NOT JUST A LABEL

Islay Taylor Knuckle Dusters

Islay Taylor made some very nice knuckle dusters. And I must admit, they are quite awesome!

I know you and I (and many more) are still wandering, and trying to find our way out of the hype called 'Color Those Nails! Or you can't play with us anymore!', because to be honest... I, and many more, like nails long, plain and healthy looking (maybe because I bought 20 different nail polishes and they all didn't like me).

But with these knuckle rings you can have the best of both worlds, plain Jane tips and some GhettoFabulouzNailzzzzz!

Cut Up Complete Technique

Everything that has anything to do with sowing is something I am going to want! So no wonder I am on the verge of purchasing these tiny scissors from Complete Technique!

My Friend Eva a.ka. Madame Papillon is a trendsetter at heart, and I love the scissor she always wears around her neck! So I think we can say this idea is not exactly 'new', but too cute not to blog about.

So checkerdiecheck the website and find more mini versions of different custom made objects like stereo boxes, headphones, 45 adapters, head shells and walk mans worn by various artists, shall I say: Common, Quest love, Black Thought, Mos Def, Swiss Beats etc. Strange though.. I haven't seen them wearing these scissors. Not so up to date are we??!

McQueen Samurai Skull

Once again I have fallen in love, my heart is pounding and it won't stop! My hands are sweaty and shaking, why wont it stop! Why?! Maybe because I have been dreaming dark dreams where I had this dramatic Avant-Garde Samurai Skull Clutch from Alexander McQueen, and I dropped it in a well! I know, I know... Weird!

It is a shame I can only dream of this black silk-satin box clutch with gold beads and sequins... The Samurai inspiration is well thought out, and I never ever expected less from this genius. My skull addiction has grown even more. Let's break that Piggy Bank!

Chao And Eero

Chao And Eero created a very nice collection of simple but well thought out jewelry. The Finland based designers are a great example of two people with different styles who are able to put both their marks on the designs, and end up with a line for people who love quirky basics.

The smiley ring must be my all time favorite. A simple idea that makes you think 'Why didn't I think of that!'... Well... Why didn't I think of that!

Available in many countries and webshops, and that makes me a happy camper!

We Are Handsome!!

We Are Handsome made my day. This makes me want to wear swimwear, and as all of my friends know, I do not like swimwear!

The new collection, The Memoirs, of this young Australian brand (only started in 2009 by Indhra Chagoury and Jeremy Jules Somers) is one for the imaginative. The dreamy and wild prints are one of a kind. The wolves, air balloons, beaches, horses and winter resort landscapes are shown in bright and easy going colours with a touch of magic. Finally a brand who likes to play with prints (because come on! We really never see prints like these), and gave them all special names (more love), The Bather, The Dreamer, The Protector, The Knight and The Destination. I'll just consider myself a Protector and a Dreamer ;-)...

P.S. All the prints are also used for the winter collection. Yes!

Emmanuel Bossuet's Couture Busts

Emmanuel Bossuet of EEM Agency collaborated with Stockman and created these graphic black and white busts for us to drool over. A Paris based art director with a great love for all non colors (as I call it).

He had the privilege to start working as a graphic consultant at Philip Starck's, he soon after started EEM as an agency, where he started developing and designing one-of-a-kind projects.
In the past studios such as Martine Sitbon and Sonia Rykiel used his creativity as decorative designer for their labels.

Limited edition of 10 pieces of each style - 2200 euros

Available at Le Bon Marché - Rive Gauche, Paris (And if you can not afford it, like me, you can see the 3 original busts at Le Bon Marché)

NYC Work Trip

Sorry! I have been neglecting my blog! So, from now on I will be punctual as usual, and wright and wright till my fingertips get blue (or red, I think...)

So in the meantime I have been quite busy, two weeks ago I went to New York for 4 days. I am sorry to say that this wasn't for pleasure, but for work... And with work I mean... SHOPPING! Yes, every girls dream! I maxed out the company credit card, buying jewelry and vintage inspiration accessories. Much fun I must say, but also (and I am still not complaining) very tiring! But the inspiration I took back with me is priceless...

Pixie Market, Cutie Pie, Anthropology, Free People, Patricia Field... Pfff I have raided them all! Shopping in Brooklyn and Manhattan is my newest hobby (what a shame that it is one of my most expensive hobbies) And I did have some time to shop for myself (Uhm, I made time ^_^)... A little recap of NYC below...
