Jim's Skull Obsession

It seems like skulls are sticking to us like glue, don't they? It is a strange kind of obsession we have with the remains of the dead... I have to admit that I am one of you! It doesn't really add up with my other obsession, Hello Kitty... But hey! Who cares, I'm a strange little girl (so I hear, even from my own parents). But this is not why I started this story, I started this story because of Jim!

Jim is a guy, a guy with an obsession. An obsession that just grew and grew (unlike me), and resulted in some kind of weird art, that really caught my attention! Jim traveled most of the world for inspiration, from New Zea land to New Hebrids, and discovers Australia, India, Hong Kong and so on. You might call him, a well traveled kind of guy wouldn't you? I would...

In the 1980's he creates his first skulls. His vocation is now revealed, and will never leave him.

I was really drawn to these color full skulls. Jim's skulls keep you amazed, looking and finding more little details of real craftsmanship. And may I say, the color combination's are beau-ti-ful!

These pieces are more organic. His color use is natural and more detailed.

My favorite (almost, I don't know which one to love more to be honest!)

I can't promise you I won't post more about skulls and bones (and all other parts I might have forgotten to mention). But I do promise you...uhm... To keep posting more of my favorite findings, about everything that makes me (almost) not want to share it!

CUTUPCOLLECTIF

It would be hard not to follow with curiosity what CUT UP COLLECTIF CUT UP COLLECTIF will do next, their posts are normally jaw dropping in some way or another, even though I have been to busy to do anything lately! I do make time to check out their page on Facebook, 'Cut Up Collectif'.

CUT UP COLLECTIF is a fusion of 3 creative girls: 2 fashion designers and a make up artist Sylvia, Noémie, Nadjma based in Brussels. And they are here to present the reflection of their styles..

Two of the three: Sylvia & Noémie

This talented group of girls inspire me allot! This is a good example of a strong collaboration of 3 style freaks, that make you want to go outside your little box and explore. They really do take the imagination to a different place. From make-up inspired by the African culture to renowned photographers like Brassai. They find the beauty in every culture and make it their own.

These busy litle bees also have a great blog www.cutupcollectif.tumblr.com

I will stop bragging about them (for now..!) Keep your eagle-eye on CUT UP COLLECTIF' projects people, because you do not want to miss them (serious... for real..)

And so my first post of 2011 ends here people!

Strawberry Earth Wonderland

Mette and Ikenna kicked some but! Yes they did! The first edition of Strawberry Earth Wonderland was sold out and a huge success!

What is Strawberry Earth Wonderland you might think? It is an international event combining Eco fashion, art and music. Another big event and this time in the old newspaper building 'TROUW'. What a great location this was too!

I asked my good friend Eva van Liempt to start a small collection of accessories with me, and combining our different styles. And our inspiration was...? Do I really have to tell you again? I guess I do, BOWS! Bows everywhere, so many bows that we lost track of all our designs and minds... But what a collection we ended up with. It was almost a shame to sell some of our lovely Eco-bows :-(... But the reactions we got on our collection, made up for all the heartache (ow how dramatic, I know!) We even got to do some great interviews, pose like we never posed before for some pictures, exchanged a truckload of business cards and even had time for some lame jokes and bathroom breaks.

Strawberry Earth also loves bringing new artists here for their events, and this time they did it again, The Amplifetes! A brand new 4-piece band from Sweden who totally rocked (like us) and made sitting next to our stand difficult! What a shame..

But we were not the only 'great label' (and with 'great label' I do mean SugaRush & Madame Papillon) exhibiting there. Strawberry Earth also invited some very very nice fashion and beauty labels from all over Europe and some of their creative friends to exhibit their designs and art work. You can see who was their for this event on www.strawberryearth.com. Do check this out, because even though this happened 2 weeks ago, they will be rocking another big venue with this event next year!

Little exposure in 'Het Parool'.

Keep your eyes and ears open. And don't forget..... SugaRush and Madame Papillon will be back!

See Ya!

The Dutch Environmental Film Festival

Yes people, it is all over... You missed some crazy days presented by our own Strawberry Earth! The Dutch Environmental Film Festival!

The 3th of June is were it all began.. Studio K opened their doors for the first environmental films, Lantaren Venster couldn't wait for the 4th of June but Studio K signed up for two days of international films to remember, they prepared themselves for another Strawberry Earth night on the 5th of June and, went all out! Strawberry cocktails, Food Jazz & DJ's, Rosie and the Cupcake Factory, Join the Pipe, Lucy Love, DJs Lowriders and more! You know I can go on and on, so sorry...

See more on http://strawberryearth.com/deff/programme/june-3/

FEED ME!

And to close this big event with a big bang! Strawberry Earth had a very special night in store for 100 exclusive guests at Hotel de Goudfazant. The initiators of The Dutch Environmental Film Festival 2010 (Strawberry Earth) had hand picked the people they think are capable of making a difference to the planet's future.

From trend setting young artists, designers musicians and bloggers to experienced hands from the green and business scenes, all the guests were presented a memorable Award Dinner.

And ofcourse, the moment of the night was the announcement of who had won the very first Golden Strawberry Award for best film during the festival... DIVE! - Dumpster diving in LA. Please watch this short film! http://www.divethefilm.com/

AWARD?

But where did that gorgeous peace of art come from? designed by yours truly, SugaRush! A project I put all my heart and soul in (and some blood, sweat and allot of tears) but it was all worthit. I mean can you say NO! to Ikenna and Mette? I created a golden origami strawberry made with all organic
materials.

THE KABLIKINOV EFFECT

Short film made by Sandder Lanen. I can't say too much about this eco-thriller other than that it will knock your socks off.

World Premiere at The Dutch Environmental Film Festival! from Strawberry Earth on Vimeo.

Tieka Twenties

Last week I got a call from Sandder with the question if I wanted to style Tieka and Paulina for a shoot. Everyone knows that Tieka is a very talented poët that has a great obsession with the late twenties. This was a good theme to choose for her next book that is coming up (so please keep your ears and eyes open!)

So with a overload on feathers, strass and pearls we headed to a very nice café near Rembrandtplein that embodied the late twenties! Beautiful fixtures, lovely portraits of people that might have existed or not (no one cares about that anyway) and Bambi-inpsired glass art that made you feel like you were there in the woods making friends with strange looking animals.. But as usual I am drifting off, I'm so sorry (once again).

Again Sandder made some beautiful and dreamy pictures, and we are quite proud of the end result. Hope to do some more styling jobs in the future, and with all the apparel and little treasures I saved up the last few years..it would be a shame not to!

Enjoy!

B*nkerstylo

Yes, for the people who are familiar with the B*nker know that this is the place to go to 'after'. This is becoming the place to be, but only for the true survivors (you know, the ones that didn't need those magic 'beans').

Now Daniel Sanchez is spreading the 'word', and making everyone hungry for these little gems.. So without further ado:

THE END (Yes, really.. the end)

BlaBla meets Miami

It's always nice to see that your designs travel more than you do ^_^

One string at a time

These strings were looking quite lonely and strange, just hanging and lying around. They were starting to annoy me...allot... Maybe because I have been working on them for a good few weeks and decided before going to sleep (always before I go to sleep I take some radical decisions, not a good time I can tell you) that they looked like a high design floorcloth gone wrong. I took them apart one hundred times and put them back together as many times...

After this depressing experience I got some very good news (as usual when I am at my lowest and want to throw everything out. Stuck!) because Sandder was going to do some photography for his own with no one other then Assa Ariyoshi! and she wanted to wear some of my new stuff (that was just in pieces all over the place). So after some hours of work I did finish my new obsession and they looked great on her! see for yourself...

Assa is not only a model but also a very talented artist so do check out her website www.assaariyoshi.com !
